How "traditions" changed the way I do things....

Tomorrow is the start of Easter weekend 2018...and even though for us as a family the meaning behind Easter is SO much more than a long weekend with friends and family and eating maybe one (or 10) too many chocolate eggs, I can not escape the excitement that stirs within me to take this opportunity and make memories with my family in this time.
I grew up in a home where there were NO shortage on traditions.I guess some of you might think: "shame, that's stupid..." but let me tell you: these traditions I am talking about wasn't your usual tradition of buying christmas presents or eating hot cross buns. I grew up in a household where my mother would absolutely go out of her way to make all things fun for us! We went on holiday to Cape Town every year December, and every year December we can be 100% sure our mother had some sort of fun activity planned for the holiday. Something out of the ordinary, something we will remember. Things like going horseback riding on Noordhoek beach (mind you, I was ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED), planning to go dune skiing, feeding penguins on Boulders beach or whatever...IT BECOME A TRADITION TO DO SOMETHING FUN AND UNEXPECTED.
Christmas is also just another opportunity for mommy-dearest to make the most of such a special time with presents being hidden and given clues as to where to find them etc. It all may seem SO small, but man oh man did I realize this week how these fun things my mother planned since we've been little kids has given me the opportunity and desire to do the same for my kids.
So this year my husband and I decided we are going to start doing traditions with the kiddies. FUN, EXCITING and memorable traditions. Our first tradition: As a family we had our first *"krismisbed" at the beginning of the year where we got pizza and slept on the mattresses in front of the tv watching a kids movie.
And now...now I am planning a new tradition for the kids this Easter weekend. While the meaning lies much deeper for me than chocolate eggs, I know that I want to teach my kids that as a family we need to cherish every moment with each other, make memories, laugh, cry and share excitement in ALL THINGS LIFE...so that they can one day look back at their lives and know we did our best to make even the small things special.
Who knows...maybe they will even pass on one or two of our traditions to their kiddies the way we do ;)
But for now...I am enjoying the couch, coffee and EASTER EGGS!
Hope each and every one reading this blog has a super blessed Easter weekend!
